Earlier this week, I made the easiest, yummiest, creepiest homemade rice krispy treats and the boys went wild! I found a recipe for one from Modern Meal Makeover that uses a special ingredient to make them extra gooey and it's a total winner over here. We added our own creepy twist to them at the end to make them perfect for a sweet Halloween treat.

CREEPY HOMEMADE RICE KRISPY TREATS

INGREDIENTS:
  • 6 cups of rice krispies
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
  • one bag of mini marshmallows - we used 16 ounces!
  • 1/2 cup of condensed milk - this is what makes this recipe amazing!
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla
  • a sprinkle of sea salt
  • candy eye balls
RECIPE:
  1. Grease a 9x13 inch pan. I used a stick of butter but you can also use cooking spray!
  2. Start by placing the 1/2 of unsalted butter into a pot and melt over medium heat. Slow and steady works best for this because you don't want to burn it.
  3. Add in the 1/2 cup of condensed milk and slowly stir together. For some reason, they look like they're separating in the beginning but will come together within a few minutes.
  4. Add the entire bag of marshmallows and stir until mixed and smooth.
  5. Add the tablespoon of vanilla and sprinkle of sea salt and mix.
  6. Turn off the heat and mix in the 6 cups of rice krispies. Things are about to get sticky!
  7. Transfer the mixed krispies to the pan and very lightly press down into the pan. This is key to keeping them soft! If you pack them down, they lose their softness.
  8. Let set at room temperature for a few hours!
  9. Pop on creepy candy eye balls!
Enjoy!
