* Products sent from DERMA E.

Happy New Year, babes! It's my first post of the year and it's alllll about skincare - in particular, blue light protecting skincare. If this isn't a sign of the times, I don't know what is, but I'm here for it! I'm all about prevention and truth be told, the majority of us do spend a lot of time in front of the screen.
Derma E was sweet enough to send over two of their new products: Blue Light Shield Spray ($16.95) and Blue Light Shield Concentrated Serum ($22.50), both of which contain Lutein (to shield), Blue Green Algae (to moisturize) and Ginseng Extract (to energize).

Recent research shows that protection against UVA and UVB rays from the sun isn't enough anymore. With more and more time spent on our phones and in front of our computer screens, scientists are finding potential long-term effects on our skin from blue light.

I read in Bazaar once, from dermatologist Dr. Stefanie Williams, "Blue light has been shown to induce oxidiative stress in live skin...and has the ability to penetrate deeper into our skin compared to UVA and UVB." You can read more about the effects here. It's a great article! Raise your hand if you knew all of that because truthfully, I didn't.

So, let's talk about the Blue Light Shield Concentrated Serum ($22.50). It's intended to be used on a squeaky clean face/neck and can be applied by itself or before your moisturizer. It's a super mineral-rich serum, promising moisture to help defend against daily environmental aggressors while helping to revive your skin's appearance.

It contains Green Algae Extract which is super rich in antioxidants and helps soften your skin. Next we have Lutein, which helps provide protection from blue light. Lutein is a xanthophyll and is known for being an antioxidant that can help protect your cells from damage. Lutein is also known for being a natural treatment for AMD. Also in the serum, is Activated Charcoal to help purify while Ginseng Root comes in to help re-energize and brighten!

Talk about instant moisture! I've been using this about a week now and feel like I can't go back from this now! The serum is super light-weight but packs a powerful punch of hydration without feeling greasy or leaving behind any residue. The scent is very light and smells a bit like tea? I'm not even a tea person but it doesn't bother me.
Moving onto the Blue Light Shield Spray ($16.95)! The Blue Light Shield Spray is to be used as the finishing touch, after your skincare and makeup is applied. Just like a makeup setting spray. Just shake it, spray and you're good to go! Throw it in your bag for on-the-go use to re-energize!

This spray contains a few key players: Frankincense to help reduce blemishes and wrinkles, Red algae extract to help boost natural moisture in your skin and activated charcoal to detox and purify your skin.

If the word "Frankincense" has your nose running for the high hills, come on back, because I promise I found the scent in this spray to not be overpowering (if really even obvious) in the scent at all and I'd consider my self to not be Frankincense's biggest fan. The spray is extremely light, somewhat dense but not to the point where you're going to have droplets on your face from a few quick spritzes, y'know?

Overall, whether you're still waiting for more research to come to light about the effects of blue light or you're kind of like me and think, "Well, hey. Why not.", I highly recommend these two either way. There are no ingredients in both of these products that are solely in there for blue light protection only. All of the ingredients are still beneficial for your skin and promote hydration and protection against day-to-day radicals anyway!
