MAC Alluring Aquatics Collection | The Lips - Swatches & Review

Guys. I don't know what it is about this collection, but it makes me feel like a mermaid. Maybe it's the "water droplets" on the teal metallic packaging (but holy fingerprints galore!) or the mermaid-inspired names of the products but I'm SO hooked. Pun kind of intended. It just slipped.

PS. I decided to split this collection into two reviews: the lipsticks (and lipglass) and then a review with the bronzer and blush. So let's make a dive into this collection and see what it's all about, shall we?

MAC Alluring Aquatics Collection
The MAC Alluring Aquatics Collection launched May 15th and let me tell you, it was insane. I ended up catching the Nordstrom launch and stayed up all night just for it to release at 6:30AM. Hmph! The collection includes five lipsticks, five lipglasses, two eye pencils, two lip pencils, five eyeshadows, two blushes, a MSF bronzer, three nail polishes and two brushes.

Enchanted One is described as a mid-tone neutral pink with a matte finish.
I was so on the fence on this lipstick that I almost didn't buy it at first. It looked amazing in swatches but the majority of the ones I saw, were on tanner skintones. So how does it look on my NC20 skin? Well, brown. Like a brown/peach-toned nude but was incredibly smooth on the lips was not drying at all which really surprised me since it's a matte. I'm actually not bummed I bought this though. It's definitely different from most swatches but the "brown-peach nude" color is pretty flattering!

Goddess of the Sea is described as a dark, vibrant violet with a Cremesheen finish.
I would describe it as a purple-y berry. It applied on the lips nice and smooth but I did notice that when I rubbed my lips together, it made some of the product move to the outer parts of my lips. The finish is super natural and not very opaque. This didn't feather on my lips and wear time was about four hours. Because it's not insanely pigmented, I think this would look amazing on just about any skintone.

Modern Lure is described as a deep violet with pink pearl.
I'd say it's more of a dark berry with pink sparkles in it. SO gorgeous! I only have one other lipglass to compare consistency with (MAC Florabundance) and it was basically the same - slightly thick to apply but feels like nothing on the lips but slightly sticky. This did settle into my lip lines as well as bleed out a little so I recommend wearing this over something for the best effect and to keep it in the lines.

Swatches: Enchanted One, Goddess of the Sea and Modern Lure

MAC Enchanted One

MAC Goddess of the Sea

MAC Modern Lure

Overall: I'm pretty pleased with the lip products from the Alluring Aquatics Collection! It's always hard to see how something is going to look on you when the swatches are from a different skintone but no regrets on this my purchases from this collection and bring on the MAC Kelly x Sharon Collection! :)

I'm such a weirdo. LOL My fiance & I at a Brantley Gilbert concert!

How far along? 25 weeks (and 4 days!)
Total weight gain: 15 pounds.
Maternity clothes? Picked up some more from H&M last night. I've been dying to check out their jeans.
Stretch marks? Small tiny ones but they're there. I was upset the first night I saw them but I'm over it now.
Sleep: It really just depends on the night. Thursday night, I had the hardest time. My back hurt, my hips hurt, nothing helped.
Miss Anything? Not yet.
Movement: Lots and lots. My mom and Anthony have felt him. Sometimes I'm convinced he's practicing ninja moves in there.
Food cravings: I think this is an official craving because this is like, the fourth week this has been here. I could STILL really go for a McDonalds Ranch BLT Chicken sandwich, fries and a Starbucks frapp...
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nadda.
Gender: It's a boy!
Labor Signs: None!
Symptoms: Insomnia, lower back hurts.
Belly Button in or out? In.
Wedding rings on or off? On.

Zoya Bubbly Summer 2014 Collection - Swatches & Review

I'm never one to complain (ahem) but the weather really needs to get it together. We went from 90's on Monday to low 50's with rain and wind on Wednesday to gorgeous weather today. Seriously, New England? Let's get it together. Thankfully, with part two of Zoya's Summer 2014 polishes - The Bubbly Collection - we can still feel summery from the comfort of our own homes no matter what the weather's like outside.

Zoya Bubbly Summer 2014 Collection

Stassi is described as a brilliant citron green with a gold metallic glaze and holographic finish.
It's basically a gorgeous green glitter bomb. The formula is jelly which I wasn't quite sure how it would work out opacity-wise but surprisingly, three coats did the trick and there was barely any VNL showing.

Muse is described as a blue raspberry holographic fizz with a subtle vein of gold.
I absolutely love this color. The description is spot on and reminds me of ocean water. Three smooth coats did the trick for full opacity.

Jesy is described as a firey coral orange metallic holo.
Absolutely stunning color! Application was like butter and required about two coats for full opacity.

Harper is described as a cotton candy pink with a spun gold shimmer.
This might be my absolute favorite from this collection. It reminds me of Wendy (from the Tickled Collection) but as a huge glitter bomb. Application was superb and required three coats for full opacity.

Alma is described as a warm golden peach metallic.
This was a little meh for me. Three coats in and there was still VNL. Application was great, it just seemed like I couldn't build it up. I think maybe five coats would do the trick which is a bit excessive.

Binx is described as a spicy orchid purple dappled with gold metallic and holo sparkles.
THUMBS FREAKIN' UP on this baby. Application was amazing and this really required only two coats but I did three just to make sure it was opaque enough to my liking.

Overall: Almost all the polishes were awesome to work with, especially considering that they're all jellies. I expected insane amounts of layers to reach full opacity but most were there at three coats. My favorites from this collection are definitely Harper and Binx! Which ones are your favorites?

Zoya Tickled Summer 2014 Collection - Swatches & Review

Sweet leapin' lizards, y'all. It's HOT outside. Y'know what's even hotter? Zoya's Tickled Summer 2014 Collection. Nothing gets me more pumped for sandals and shorts than some bright colors on my toesies and fingers. The Tickled Collection is part one of deux - Zoya's Bubbled Summer 2014 Collection is currently being reviewed - it'll be up soon!

Zoya's Tickled Summer 2014 Collection
This collection contains six new shades ranging from lime green to ocean blue to neon melon.

Kitridge is described as a classic summer bubblegum pink cream.
I would definitely describe this as a neon bubblegum. Think Nicki Minaj pink. First coat went on super streaky but the second evened things out. The picture unfortunately does this no justice because guys, this. is. BRIGHT! I think it might even be brighter if you start with a white base coat and then apply this over it.

Rocha is described as a classic folly red cream with warm undertones.
Again, this picture does this no justice because in person, it's a bit more orange-y red instead of cherry red in the picture. Application was super smooth and easy to work with.

Ling is described as a vibrant royal blue cream that is evenly balanced.
This polish is awesome in two different ways: 1.) This is my brother's nickname for me. I don't even know why but it's been ever since we were little. 2.) This is an insanely fabulous blue. The application was superb with no issues (and no staining!) applying.

Rooney is described as a mid-range magenta pink cream with balanced undertones.
This polish didn't really do anything for me. It's beautiful, don't get me wrong. It's just your run-of-the-mill pretty pink and reminds me a lot of OPI's If You Moust, You Moust. Application was smooth with two coats for full opacity.

Tilda can be described as a warm mantis green cream.
Someone hand me a mojito (virgin, of course) because I got the lime with this polish! It's such a fun green and it's not something I really have. Super smooth application.

Wendy is described as a juicy summer melon.
Guys. I'm so in love with this polish. I don't even know where to start. The application is so buttery smooth. It's a dream to work with. And the color - the color! - is just, my most favorite thing ever right now. I want this color in sandals, a purse - heck, I'll even take a car in this color. It makes my hands look extremely tan. I'm just in love. You will see me rockin' this all summer long.

Overall: This collection is right on the money for Summer 2014. Almost all the polishes (minus Kitridge) were awesome sauce to work with. My favorites were Tilda, Ling and Wendy, for sure!

Baby Update | 23/24 Weeks!

Hi dolls! So I combined these last two weeks together because again, (thankfully) it's was kind of uneventful - up until last Wednesday night! Actually, I should back up a sec. There was another eventful day too. Last Saturday, we went to Anthony's uncle's birthday party. We were just sitting there, playing checkers near the pond (yeah, we're those people) and the babe started kicking. Now, I've definitely been getting kicks but nothing like these so I quickly told Ant to put his hand on my belly and he felt him give a big kick! One of the best moments EVER. Then the babe went into hiding and would only kick late at night. THEN, Wednesday night, my insomnia kicked in and I was up and around 2AM, he started kicking like crazy. I don't even know what made me decide to check it out, but I flashed my phone light down at my tummy and guys, I COULD SEE LITTLE KICKS! It looked like my belly was having little spasms. SO FREAKING COOL. I can't even explain how I felt. It was amazing!

Also, we printed out our baby shower invites so the planning has officially started! :) The invites are from Made By Katy Designs and I'm seriously in love! I can't wait to show you all once they're sent out.

How far along? 24 weeks!
Total weight gain: 10 pounds still last time I checked.
Maternity clothes? Maxis, maternity tees and my fave pair of Old Navy Maternity jeans rolled up.
Stretch marks? On the 20th, I noticed my first little stretch mark :(
Sleep: Eh. My back's been hurting lately so it's been uncomfortable lately but still doing pretty well.
Miss Anything? Not really.
Movement: HECK YES! I absolutely love it.
Food cravings: I could STILL really go for a McDonalds Ranch BLT Chicken sandwich, fries and a Starbucks frapp...
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing.
Gender: It's a boy!
Labor Signs: None!
Symptoms: Insomnia, lower back hurts.
Belly Button in or out? In.
Wedding rings on or off? On but sometimes they get stuck.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy but feeling incredibly overwhelmed lately.
Looking forward to: Meeting the babe! But for now, the baby shower! :) Oh, and we're going to be on vacation not this week but next week - WHOOP WHOOP!

ReviviaLabs Hawaiian Seaweed Cleansing Milk - Review

So lately I've been into skincare. I mean, really into skincare. I don't know if it was that Epic Breakout of 2014 but I have seriously turned over a new leaf and have been into cleansers, toners, face masks - the whole enchilada.

A new product in my skincare arsenal is the RevivaLabs Hawaiian Seaweed Cleansing Milk. It's a milky, seaweed-based facial cleanser that eliminates toxins while cleansing. The minerals in the Hawaiian Seaweed are there to energize skin as well as lift up any remaining dirt, makeup and any other stuff that's hanging on your skin that shouldn't be and remove it. The magnesium in the seaweed softens your skin while the veggie oil in this cleanser makes this perfect for day and night cleansing.

Now this has some big shoes to fill as I've been in a committed relationship with my Philosophy Purity One Step Facial Cleaner since, well, whenever I last bought it. It's that serious.

The consistency feels like a light lotion in your hands and has no lather when you add water to it. I removed my makeup before I used this but the website says you can actually use this once to remove your makeup and then again afterward to cleanse. I applied this to a wet face and lightly massaged it all over. I left it on for about a minute and then rinsed it off and patted dry.

My skin felt incredibly smooth and clean - not tight like most cleansers (including Philosophy's). But I figured with smooth, supple, hydrated skin that night, I'd be expecting a nice break out in the morning (my skin just can't handle things being awesome) but I was surprised to see my skin still felt nice and soft and no break outs to be seen! I also usually have a slight dry patch around my nose piercing that never goes away no matter how many times I moisturize it but ever since that night I used this cleansing milk, it's been gone! Woohoo!

Overall: I wasn't quite sure what to expect with a cleansing milk but to say I'm impressed with this one is an understatement! I loved that I didn't need that tightening feeling to know my skin was being cleansed. I can honestly say, I haven't felt my skin this soft since before pregnancy! I absolutely love this.

Cute Baby Shower Gift Ideas

Hi dolls! So I'm rounding out (literally) my second trimester and heading into my third trimester in a few weeks. I can't believe in three months, I'll have a little baby boobah in my arms. I can't wait!

I'll have a "Top 5/10 2nd Trimester Faves" post coming up soon but for now I wanted to share some products that I've been drooling over and was like, "Hey! Those would make cute baby shower gifts!"

I also just want to quickly preface this and throw it out there that I do not expect people to buy me these; they're just cute/cool/interesting things I've found through Pinterest and Etsy and who knows where else. This might help people who are stuck on something to buy for a mommy-to-be or for mommy-to-be's who just want to check out what other mommy-to-be's think are cool. :) I totally do that.

21Bundles.com
21Bundles is such a cool idea for a mommy-to-be, whether you're gifting it or ordering it yourself! It's a monthly subscription for the 9 months of being pregnant + a year your their little one arrives = 21 Bundles (SO cute!). Each box is filled with baby-safe natural products that are appropriate for whatever month you/they are in. You can subscribe month to month for $39.99 per month, a 3-month subscription for  $109.99 or a 6-month subscription for $209.99. Tell me this wouldn't be an adorable baby shower gift!

* Also awesome (but pricier) is The Honest Company which isn't a subscription box per say but you do get adorable diapers/cleaning products/etc. at your door for a price per month (price varies on what you choose).

Nursing Scarves - NurooBaby | InfinityMOM | graceeugene
Okay. So maybe I'm more into these because I plan on breastfeeding but I mean, c'mon. These are adorable! I love the idea of an infinity scarf doubling as a nursing cover. Not only is it something I'll wear even after I'm done, but it's too cute to boot! Prices range from $20-25.

It's pretty clear that I have dove head first into all things boy (and mustaches). I mean, these are freakin' adorable! I'm dying over that viking hat with the red beard (they also offer a viking hat with little braids!). The Mustachifier is hilarious. The personalized blanket is one I saw Tiffany Thorton use when her baby was born so I kind of plan on getting something similar for our babe.

I have never seen any of these gifts at a baby shower, but I want to (at my own) ;) Kidding. I don't know how my fiance would feel seeing our son in a pink giraffe hat. But the Baby Ducks sippy cup and scarf bibs (also comes in a set of blues)? SO cute. What mom doesn't want to see their baby in a giraffe hat, Starbucks-lookalike sippy cup and scarf bib? Exactly.

Moccasins - Freshly Picked
Behold! The cutest little moccasins you've ever seen. Albeit a tiny bit expensive (about $60 a pop), they are made from the highest quality genuine leather. Super soft and easy to put on (and take off about a million times), these moccasins have graced the pages of US Weekly and the feet of baby Kardashians.

So that's my list! I can't help but want like, all of it. I'm dying to know. What's your fave gift to give at a baby shower? Do you stick to the registry or go off on your own? :)

*All pictures belong to their rightful owners. I do not claim that any are mine.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit / How I HAC - Review

So I'd be totally lying if I said I wasn't one of those people that totally lost their cool when Anastasia Beverly Hills announced they were coming out with a contour kit awhile ago. Then lost it again when all the bloggers/vloggers started posting reviews about it because it looked so awesome. I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't one of those that sat around all day waiting for it and eagerly snatched it up. But does it really live up to the hype it gets?

Sure, other products might be able to create this look as well as this palette does but A.) you all know I love my palettes and B.) Anastasia Beverly Hills quality is out of this world so you can almost always expect the best.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit is a limited edition (unfortunately) six shade palette - three for highlighting, three for contouring. The darker shades are perfect for defining, shading and creating shadows while the lighter shades are great for brightening and enhancing the definition from contouring. All six shades in this palette are removable for refills. I've also heard they're adding more shades soon so you can basically make your own contour kit.

I wonder which shade I use the most? ;)

This palette contains two matte brightening shades and a highlight in the top row:

  • Vanilla - a matte light pink. This is great to set your concealer with under your eyes especially if you have pink undertones.
  • Banana - a matte light yellow. Love this shade! I've found that I have yellow undertones so I use this instead of Vanilla to set my under eyes and basically wherever else I put my concealer.
  • Sand - a champagne highlight. I absolutely love how pigmented this is! A little goes a long way. I use this above my cupid's bow, down my nose and on my cheekbones.
This palette also contains three matte contouring shades in the bottom row:
  • Java - a matte brown with a slight red undertone.
  • Fawn - a matte brown with yellow undertone. AKA my new best friend.
  • Havana - a matte brown with strong red tones.
All six shades have great pigmentation and are smooth and finely-milled. They all really stick and stay all day ("down by the bay, what do you say?" - Happy Gilmore reference).

Onto my favorite brushes to use for HAC'ing (highlight and contouring):
  • NARS Ita Brush - This brush is perfect for getting right underneath those cheekbones or right next to your nose to create a shadow for contouring. I think this brush appeals to a lot of people because of it's precision. I'm almost positive you can get the same technique from taking your normal contouring brush and squeezing the bristles between your thumb and pointer to create a thinner brush.
  • Real Techniques Blush Brush - Or basically, my everything brush! I mostly use this to bronze up my entire face before contouring but I've used this as a setting brush, blush brush and a contour brush (by squeezing the bristles together like I explained above).
  • Sedona Lace FB03 - It's big. It's fluffy. It's dome-shaped. Awesome for setting my concealer with some powder!
  • Real Techniques Contour Brush - I use this brush mostly for highlighting but have used it for contouring as well.

How I contour and highlight:

First, we're starting with a fresh face. And by fresh face I mean you have foundation on. (You can try doing this with a fresh face, but I noticed that these powders need something to stick to.) For foundation, I used Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation in Ivory.

Next, we're taking our concealer (I used MAC Mineralized Concealer in NC15) and concealing underneath the eyes, the nose, the chin - basically anywhere you want to conceal (duh!) as well as brighten. After that, I take Banana from the Contour Kit and with my Sedona Lace brush, press the powder to set my concealer.

(I lost the picture but next you'll just bronze up your entire face, hitting all the places that the sun hits: forehead, cheeks, etc. I do this with Fawn from the kit, my Real Techniques Blush Brush and a light hand because we're going to go in and contour but I still want a little bronze on my face beforehand.)

The first picture is totally optional but I like to contour my nose with Fawn and just a random dome-shaped eyeshadow brush. I draw two lines down the side of my nose, blend them out and apply some highlighter down the bridge.

Next, I take my NARS Ita brush and try to carve out my non-existent cheekbones. To find your cheekbones (I'm still looking!), take your brush and start at the top of your inner ear and work your way down. Then blend that baby upwards so it's not super harsh.

Finish off by applying Sand to your upper cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose and above your cupid's bow.

Ta-da! The finished look! When I'm in a big rush, I condense this down to about 10 minutes (if that), apply mascara and I'm out the door. For me, this isn't typically an every day look, but one I go to when I way to feel extra put together (which has definitely been a lot lately).

For the longest time, I had NO IDEA how to HAC or even try! Until Miss Maskcara came along and introduced how to HAC for every face shape. Definitely check that link out if you're feeling a little confused. It helped me!

As for the Anastasia Contour Kit, I absolutely love it! It's fantastic to everything right there in one palette. All shades are very pigmented and smooth to work with. I have noticed that these do need something to stick to (foundation, concealer). Overall, I'm SO happy with this kit!

The Summer Prep Collection by TotalBeauty.com Box - Review

Summer is officially a teensy bit more than a month away (but who's counting?) which means it's time to get our prep on. I'm talking sunscreen, hair masks, moisturizers - the full sha-bang, people!

No need to freak - TotalBeauty.com has got you covered with a beauty box filled with travel-friendly goods to help you get your summer on!

The Summer Prep box contains six travel-friendly (think deluxe/sample size) products that add up to a $95 value! The goods come in a super sleek, almost-rubberized box (think kind of like NARS packaging) which I think is pretty cool. I mean, it's cardboard in the end but I actually really liked the feel. You guys know me and packaging! Two of the products have been announced via TotalBeauty.com but the rest have been kept a secret - until now! Don't peek if you plan on buying and want to be surprised!

The inside! Let's check out the products a little more in depth, shall we? :)

Kitsch Hair Ties - $9 (for full size)
There is almost nothing that makes a long-haired girl more excited than hair ties for summer! I love these because they're wider than a normal hairband and I feel it grips my hair more gently but still firm enough to run around and not worry about it falling down. I may be the only one, but I was also pretty excited that these don't leave creases in your hair - or your wrist! How many have them around their wrist for the day and practically have to amputate to get a normal hairband off? Not with these babies!

Cotz Face Natural Skintone Sunscreen with SPF40 - $5 (for deluxe sample size)
This facial sunscreen has an SPF of 40 with a "skintone" tint to it. When I first applied the sunscreen, I didn't think the color matched my skintone at all but once I rubbed it in, the skintone tint became translucent. I also really enjoyed that this left a nice, silky matte finish - almost like a primer! This product says to always apply liberally 15 minutes before going into the sun.

Purlisse Pur-Protect Essential Daily Moisturizer with SPF30 - $55 (for full size)
This moisturizer contains a Hydra-Shield Complex that provides a balanced SPF30 sunscreen along with Vitamin E and Soy Proteins to keep your skin soft and supple and White Tea to calm sensitive skin. The consistency is a nice lotion and leaves your skin feeling soft and protected without the grease some sunscreens leave behind. This does have a slight sunscreen scent but it's not a big deal breaker for me. I really love having this in my bag on-the-go. I don't know how many times I wish I packed a nice sunscreen when we go on spur-of-the-moment fishing trips or boat rides. Total lifesaver here!

nelson j Beverly Hills Healing Masks - $10 (for three sample packets)
I have been on the biggest hair mask kick so this was SO awesome to see in the box. While I've never heard of nelson j Beverly Hills, I have heard of Argan Oil and have always been a little weary about using oils (in general) in my hair since it's so thin and can sometimes get greasy looking. The packets I received are all moisture healing masks perfect for protecting your hair from Chlorine and salt water. I received three different scents: pomegranate (yum!), rosemary mint and coconut (double yum!).

After your normal shampoo, apply one of the masks to towel dry/slightly damp hair. You can leave it in for a minute for a quick repair or a little bit longer for some deep reconditioning. If you have thin hair like me, rinse the mask after use and then shampoo again. According to the packet, to protect your hair for saltwater or Chlorine, before swimming, get your hair wet and apply a mask from the root to the ends and don't rinse. I have yet to try that since we haven't opened the pool yet, but I'll be reporting back to let you know how it goes! I used the pomegranate mask and was really surprised by how nice and soft my hair felt after. Definitely a thumbs up!

Gleam by Melanie Mills Body Radiance in Light Gold - $15 (for deluxe sample size)
Gleam is makeup, moisturizer and a glow for your body and face all in one! I received the color "Light Gold" and wasn't sure what to expect. Upon applying to my skin like a lotion, it looked almost too yellow and too opaque but after rubbing it in, it left a nice, sheer gold glow on my skin. I think this would look amazing on your legs, decolletage and shoulders for a date night out. It has a light, coconut scent that I can't put my finger on what it reminds me of but it's a good thing, I promise! For makeup, you can mix this into your foundation for a glowy effect. This is transfer-resistant and apparently buildable although I have to admit, I couldn't really get it to build up anymore. I prefer a subtle glow anyway.

Suntegrity Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen & Primer  with SPF30 - ($5 for three sample packets)
Right off the bat, a few things made me happy:
- It was an Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner.
- It's made in the USA.
- It's cruelty free and vegan.
- "Suntegrity was made in honor of my Mom and all of those who have lost their lives to skin cancer. May you wear this sunscreen and smile in their memory." - Tricia T.

As someone who has a family member with skin cancer, it's a reminder for me to never go to the beach (or really anywhere) without it. I specifically like this sunscreen because it's moisturizing on my face as well as a nice little primer. It has a yummy citrus scent that makes me incredibly happy to put it on (rather than when it smells like typical sunscreen, I kind of dread it). Please note that this sunscreen is not waterproof so use a water-resistant one if you plan on swimming.

Overall: I'm so pleased with this box! There were a lot of goodies from brands I've never tried so that's always fun to get a box like that and try new things. My favorite products were the hair masks by nelson j Beverly Hills and the Suntergrity Sunscreen & Primer!
